News Transcripts

10/19/23

Good morning! It’s Thursday, October 19th.

Evaluate Your Life Day.

Ugh. No thanksssss

And now, the news.

Israel-Hamas War

-via AP News

We start with the Israel-Hamas war, where President Biden’s 8-hour trip made him the first American President to visit Israel in wartime. On his flight home, Biden also spoke with the Egyptian president, who will now allow up to 20 trucks worth of humanitarian aid through a border crossing that will be reopened after closing due to air strikes.

The aid will allow food, water, and other supplies into Gaza.

The United States will send $100 million in federal funding to support Palestinians and emergency needs in Gaza.

Hey future news heads up – Biden is expected to address the nation tonight about the wars in Israel and Ukaine.

Search for New House Speaker

-via CNN

And of course, we also need to talk about the continued search for the new House Speaker. On Wednesday, little Jimmy Jords, aka Jim Jordan, tried once again to grab that gavel.

And this time – dude lost harder! While Hakeem Jeffries once again got 212 votes, poor Jimmy Jords lost two votes that he had on Tuesday. He ended his count with 198, versus the 200 he had on Tuesday.

But he’s gonna continue to stay and fight! Because if there’s one thing Jim Jordan’s gonna do, it’s gonna be to deny an election.

The next vote is expected today, no earlier than noon Eastern. Losing 2 more votes, to bring is total deficit to 22 is a pretty hard number to see him overcoming. Who knows.

Natalie Holloway

-via CNN

Eighteen years after Natalie Holloway disappeared in Aruba, Joran van der Sloot, who is 36 years old, admitted to killing Natalie after she rejected his sexual advances.

After brutally attacking her, which I don’t need to describe here, he pushed her into the ocean. The judge noted, after reading that, that Natalie’s body will never be found.

He’d been arrested multiple times in connected with Natalie’s death, but released due to a lack of specific evidence.

Van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year sentence and he admitted to killing Stephany Flores in 2010 for the same reason.

He’s been sentenced to 20-years for Natalie’s murder, which will be served concurrently with his sentence in Peru for killing Stephany Flores.

Which, to be honest, I hate. He should serve them back-to-back. He should have to serve an additional 20 years.

Someone quick, make me a judge!

Las Vegas Aces are WNBA Champions

-via NBC News

I feel like I have to cover this because I got at least three different breaking news alerts about it… WNBA team the Las Vegas Aces bested the New York Liberty 70-69 to become the first team in 21 years to win back-to-back WNBA championships.

This is exciting. I love this. I love when womens sports take the lead like this. I don’t know that I needed a million breaking news alerts about it. Or about any sports right now. And you know me. You know I love sports.

But there’s like… there’s a lot happening in the world right now and so when I get multiple breaking news alerts, I’m a little on edge. Ya know?

But no matter – hey, congrats!

And that’s it. That’s the news.

I know I just said there’s a lot going on in the world right now, but that doesn’t mean today had a lot episode. Sometimes we just need to take it easy on ourselves.

Hey, I’m proud of people who take it easy on themselves. Whether you evaluate your life today or not (and honestly, you know what? Maybe not! Maybe don’t!). Because if I had to give you your evaluation today, I’d give you an A+…. I’m proud of you.
