10/24/23

Good morning! It’s Tuesday, October 24th.

National bologna day.

You know what’s nuts? Bologna has been around since the 1400s and came into America through New York.

And now, the news.

Israel-Hamas War

-via AP News

We start with the Israel-Hamas war, where Hamas has released two more hostages. This time they were two older Israeli women.

Yesterday I mentioned that a few trucks had gone into Gaza over the weekend. Well that is still happening but just to note what that means in terms of how helpful it is – about 15 to 20 trucks are currently being let into Gaza. The United Nations says 200 is the minimum number of aid trucks currently needed. So that’s quite a difference.

Israel is still preventing fuel from entering the area, which may slow, or stop, the aid able to get in.

Still No Speaker

We still don’t have a speaker. I don’t know what else to add about this. Still no Speaker. We’ll see what today brings.

Fog Causes Deadly Crash

-via NPR

At least seven people are dead after a superfog of smoke from marsh fires mixed in with dense fog caused a 158-car pile up in South Louisiana Monday morning. Twenty-five people were injured, and, as first responders continue to clear the area, it’s possible the death toll may go up.

Visibility has improved, but the Weather Service has warned that there are still multiple wetland fires in the area, so another superfog could happen again.

Off-Duty Pilot Faces Attempted-Murder Charges

-via Washington Post

An off-duty pilot is facing 83 counts of attempted murder after, while sitting in the flight deck’s jump seat, he attempted to turn off the airplane’s engines on Sunday.

The flight, which was operated by Alaska Airlines’ Horizon Air subsidiary, was originally headed for San Francisco, but landed safely in Portland. According to an audio recording, the pilot of the flight told air traffic controllers, “We’ve got the guy that tried to shut the engines down out of the cockpit and he doesn’t sound like he’s causing issues in the back right now. I think he is subdued.”

The flight captain and first officer were the ones that subdued the off-duty pilot. I don’t know how they did it, but I did just watch Hijack on Apple TV, so I can use my imagination.

And that’s it. That’s the news.

Slow news day. No one tell anyone!!

I’m proud of the pilot and first officer who stopped that off-duty pilot from doing anything.

I’m also proud of bologna. It knows what it is. It’s not trying to be too fancy. It’s just good, solid, sandwich meat. I think… I don’t know… it’s been a while since I’ve had it.

But more than that, and hey this is no bologna… I’m proud of you.
