News Transcripts

03/27/23

Good morning! It’s Monday, March 27th. International Scribble Day.

Ya hear that? International scribble day. So let’s all take it easy for this one day about my handwriting. Today is a day to CELEBRATE it. “Oh, but Kim, it’s actually more like serial killer handwriting than scribbles.”

Okay you know what… that’s more accurate but still. International Scribble Day. How fun!

And now, the news.

What Happened with Trump

Let’s start with… Hey Kim, while you had a fairly minor cold that also made you feel like you needed to sleep 17 hours a day… what happened with Trump? Wasn’t that dude supposed to be arrested? Did you make a very funny TikTok using a Ted Lasso clip that talked about how it was totally happening?

Okay well the second question is yes… I did make a funny lil TikTok about it. We’ll talk more about TikTok later today but in the meantime… I nailed the joke.

Okay so, as of this recording, um… nothing has changed. Trump has yet to be arrested, and everything still stands. The Manhattan Grand Jury, which is the one that dude proclaimed he was about to be arrested in (that’s the money crimes case) is still meeting. No decision has been made in Georgia (that’s the election stealing crimes one). And Coach Beard has yet to make any announcements in the confidential paperwork crimes case or the insurrection crimes case.

Four BIG cases. Not just because it’s the former President of the whole country that could be potentially charged here, but also because they’re four serious crimes and anyone who took any part of them should be charged.

But uh… as of this recording, on Sunday night, Trump has not yet be indicted.

Are a lot of people still talking about? Yeah, I think so. I don’t know, I was sleeping a lot. But I’m sure they were. People love pontificating. I love it! We all love it!

But it hasn’t happened yet. I promise, you’re not gonna miss it. And, on top of that, there will be a special edition of this show when it happens. So if you’re listening to these episodes as they pop up on Instagram or whatever, make sure you subscribe to this show so you never miss an episode. Okay cool, next story.

TikTok Hearing

-via Buzzfeed News

TikTok CEO Shou Chew was is Washington last week, in defense of the app. If you’re on TikTok, what you learned this week is is that Shou Chew is very good looking. After last week’s hearings, the app did what it does and a bunch of videos dedicated to Chew and the heart eyes emoji popped up. If you watched the hearings, what you learned is that… All but like 1% of the House of Representatives knows what the internet is. While some questions where relevant, if you squinted your eyes and turned your head a little, the majority asked things like – does your app connect to wifi?

No decision has been made yet but, at this point, I’d expect the platform’s days are likely numbered here in the United States. Of the three bills currently in Congress, two ban the app and one would give the government the power to ban any technologies deemed to be a national security risk.

Of note – Chew did say that their solution, which would keep all American tech and information here in America, and run by American staff, was still being worked out and seems like the best possible solution. However, after Congressional leaders learned that solution would be called Project Texas, instead of trying to work with TikTok to find an actual solution, they just told him his name was terrible because Texas stands for freedom.

So… yeah I’d say expect the app to be canceled. Not because it poses a real problem, if that were the case Facebook would also be on the chopping block, but simply because Republican members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee need to get those clicks and follows. And isn’t that such a great way to run a whole government?

Sen. McConnell Update

-via NY Times

Almost a month after a slip and fall that resulted in a concussion, Senator Mitch McConnell has been released from inpatient rehab. He will return to in person work soon, but no date has been provided.

After his fall, we were initially told he’d be out of work for a week. It’s been almost a month. Which I only note because, at this point, who knows what he means when he says he’ll be back at work soon.

But he is out of rehab, and this IS news.

Tornado in Mississippi

-via AP News

At least 26 people are dead, and dozens more are injured, after a tornado tore Mississippi. A man in Alabama has also died.

Sharkey County, Mississippi, where the tornado ran through, is one of the poorest counties in the state. Help is on the way, but with about 2000 homes damaged, this is going to be a long recovery process.

New Kelly Clarkson Album

-via Twitter

After working on it for three years, and never being totally sure she would actually put it out, Kelly Clarkson has finally announced that a new album is coming! Although we’ve gotten a bunch of baller singles, an EP of covers, and a great Christmas album, this will be her first original album since 2017.

Very exciting.

And that’s it. That’s the news.

Is it all of the news? No. But you know what? Let me leave you with this… it’s the best I can do. I have to go back to sleep now.

I’m proud of scribbles. Not my scribbles. NOT my scribbles. I can’t barely even read my own handwriting and like, yeah, I know that’s bad. But still. Scribbles in general, I’m proud of them.

But more than Scribbles. Because you’re fun and a little wild… and artful… I’m proud of you.
