Good morning! It’s Tuesday, March 7th. National Be Heard Day.
Some people celebrate this one a little too much, ya know what I’m saying? I mean, listen – you? You personally? This one’s for you. I like hearing you. More people should hear you.
But some people? People that plan insurrections. People that attend insurrections. People who don’t give a second thought to tossing on a red hat, no matter what it says. People who don’t know the entirety of Kelly Clarkson’s whole catalogue. People who know Kelly Clarkson’s whole catalogue and are indifferent to Clive Davis. People who earnestly use the phrase, “I’m just saying!” in an argument… those people are heard from enough. No one tell them about this day!
And now, the news.
Lesion removed from Biden’s Chest
-via AP News
Let’s cover some news we didn’t talk about yesterday, starting with the news from Friday that the lesion removed from President Biden’s chest last month was a common form of skin cancer but no further treatment would be required.
This is news because it’s news about the health of the president. But it’s also a great time to remind you to put on sunscreen every time you go outside. Even when it’s cloudy.
California is a CVS State Now
-via CBS News
Reacting to the news that Walgreens will no longer distribute abortion medicine by mail in 20 states that want government small and to stay away from them, unless of course, they can use that government to control the bodily autonomy of anyone with a uterus…
California’s Governor Newsom reacted with the following tweet: "California won't be doing business with @walgreens — or any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women's lives at risk. We're done."
What does this mean? Great question. I don’t know. But he seemed real serious when he said it.
I mean, big picture, he’s saying the state of California won’t sign any contracts with the company in the meantime. I don’t know what this means on a granular level because Newsom hasn’t clarified further. But I will say this… look for other states, particularly the 19 others that signed onto the abortion support coalition, to join in on this move.
Trump Lied at CPAC
-via NPR
This isn’t a story I want to cover because I don’t want my head to explode off of my body but I’m going to briefly mention it in case it comes up when other people are talking and you want to nod knowingly.
Trump, the guy that lost the popular vote twice, electoral college once, and the battle for a good heart and pure friendship every single day of his life… he spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Also known as CPAC, this is the GOP’s big conference and Trump delivered the closing remarks. Just in case they almost had ya fooled with their whole “naw but like, we ARE a rational party. Not ALL of us are into Trump.”
Um… they are not a rational party. They are a cult.
And I don’t say that lightly. Here is the official definition of a cult: “a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous.”
Beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous.
Hey, remember that time that, at his planning and direction, a bunch of people stormed the capitol in a deadly insurrection? Seems extreme and dangerous.
And while the Republican party is not small, they have allowed Trump and Trumpism to take over their party. Soooo
Anyway, the point is… the conference was full of lies. Trump closed it out. Trump lies. Very gross all around.
Glorilla Crowd Surge
-via Action News 5
Two people have now died in a crowd surge that happened Sunday night at a GloRilla concert in Rochester.
That story is sad enough, but what makes it even worse is this… it happened because the crowd believed they heard gun shots and fled.
Which is what happens, when we have a national crisis and no one wants to solve the root of the problem or the branches… the branches being the national Post Traumatic Stress we all have.
Tragic.
Pence Asks Judge to Help Hide Him from the Consequences of his Actions Trump
-via CNN
Former Veep Mike Pence, of the Dude What Even is Your Motivation Here Pence’s has asked a judge to block a federal grand jury subpoena asking for his testimony related to January 6th.
We all remember January 6th as the time the guy who has never once known how to stand with his arms in a regular position directed an angry mob to the capitol and told them to burn democracy to the ground because he had his feelings hurt.
Mike Pence may remember it a different way… the time that mob tried to kill him, and Trump took his sweet sweet time calling them off.
So remember what I said about a cult?
Because if the Republicans really were just all about tax breaks for the rich, banning books, banning shows, banning companies, banning anything that isn’t specifically made by and for rich white men (and frankly, they don’t even need to be that rich), then they might take an opportunity like Pence’s subpoena and actually encourage him to speak. So that Trump could be rightfully charged with sedition, and, at the bare minimum, never be able to run for office again.
They could easily remove him as a political problem.
But they don’t view him as a problem.
So, that means, any reasonable person cannot view that party as anything other than cult-like.
Anyway, the point is… dude doesn’t wanna talk to the federal grand jury.
TBD on if this will work. Coach Beard is NOT going to like this, but the Department of Justice has yet to comment.
And that’s it. That’s the news.
I’m proud of anyone who understood my Clive Davis reference at the beginning of the episode.
But if not… okay, here’s what happened. As America’s first Idol, Kelly Clarkson’s contract was with Clive Davis through RCA.
Kelly’s voice sounds like it does, so those first few albums sold like… well like they would when someone with her voice sings them.
Then comes My December, her third album which Davis said he didn’t think had any radio-friendly songs. He was wrong but only promoted one single, Never Again.
Never Again, which is good but not even the best song on the album, hit the Top 10. As an album, My December went platinum.
Davis used his one wild and precious life to open his mouth and really try to say it was because Kelly co-wrote a bunch of the songs.
Babe, she also co-wrote Already Gone, Because of You, Miss Independent… honey. We stay knowing, but you should have done a little Alta Vista search before you opened your mouth and tried to blame this on Kelly.
I have many more thoughts on this but the point is… Clive Davis sucks and My December is actually a great album with an excellent hidden track.
So suck on that.
But because you put up with me, knowing that I didn’t have to look ANY OF THAT UP… because you’re patient… I’m proud of you.
