Good morning! It’s Friday, July 28th.
National Milk Chocolate Day.
Can I be honest? Like, as a friend can I just say this thing and we’ll all agree to be cool about it?
I… chocolate is not my favorite. And so I used to prefer milk chocolate because it had a better taste. But now, if I’m gonna have chocolate, we gotta go dark. And I do like chocolate in things or, like, a nice chocolate bar. But it’s not my go-to taste.
Thank you for letting me say that. I am… so brave.
And now, the news.
No Update on McConnell
-via NBC News
Okay, let’s start with an update on Mitch McConnell.
I… don’t have one. We don’t know anything. Which isn’t great and also… isn’t great. Because he’s the top Senator for a whole actual political party so we should know his health. I’m not saying we need to know everything about everybody. But, you know… if these people are going to be in charge, and we’re going to pay for their insurance through our taxes, we deserve to know… hey! Did ya have a major medical issue? Should we trust you with our government?
On that note… there’s a headline about Sen. Feinstein, who also has had some medical issues this year, needing some prompting in a Senate committee vote.
Just to be clear, because I watched both videos – the McConnell video is like… dude. You good?
The Feinstein video is like… yeah she needed a little prompting but then went on talking about the particulars of the bill she was voting on. Which she didn’t need to do but still… it was a little like, what I would imagine, happens when my friends ask “hey who won the footie game on Wednesday” and then before I say “it was a tie” I give a whole breakdown while, on the side, one of my friend’s has to keep saying “just say the score. Just give the score. We’re only asking about the score. We barely even want to know that.”
Different vibes.
Trump Crime Update Time
Okay so… I mentioned this casually earlier this week but just as a reminder I’m taking next week off. Why am I mentioning this? Because it’s…
Trump Crime Update Time!
Okay, so we are still on indictment watch. That’s coming any time now. I can only assume it’ll happen next week because your girl needs a break, and if this indictment comes down, I’ll obviously try and put together an episode for you.
Anyway, so we’re on indictment watch for the time Trump was a losing loser who loses and then was big mad when he did the only thing he know how to do well… and lost the 2020 election. And instead of being like “good! Actually job is really hard. Way more reading than I was prepared for, and I’m not even doing all the reading. But what I am doing is a lot. I’m glad to be out of there!” he did insurrection crimes. And that, the January 6th insurrection crimes case, is what we’re waiting on.
We’re also waiting to see if/when he will be charged in Georgia for Attempts to Steal an Election Crimes. That’s expected any time now as well.
However… don’t you worry. There are more crimes! When you do that many crimes, there are always more crimes to talk about.
On Thursday evening, news broke that more charges are being brought against Trump in the case of the time that he STOLE our nation’s more precious and top secret secrets and then, when asked for them back, he lied. And asked others to lie.
Yep, it’s the Illegal Dibs Calling Crimes Case.
Yes, Trump has been indicted for this case but that doesn’t mean new charges can’t get got. And get got they got. The new charges include an additional count of willful retention and two new counts of obstruction against both him and Nauta.
That’s right, Nauta also has additional charges.
And with so many crimes to go around, let’s add a whole other person to the case!
Head of maintenance at Mar-a-Lago, Carlos De Oliveira, has been charged with conspiracy to obstruct efforts to retrieve the documents. He was also joined to last month’s pre-existing indictment that accused Trump and Nauta of a conspiracy to obstruct the repeated attempts to retrieve the material.
In additional to saying that “the boss” (likely referring to Trump) wanted a server containing Mar-a-Lago security footage cleared, De Oliveira was also caught on a surveillance camera moving boxes into a storage room at Mar-a-Lago in the days between the grand jury subpoena demanding all remaining classified material in Trump’s possession and a visit by federal prosecutors to see Trump’s lawyers and enforce the subpoena.
So uh… none of that looks promising!
This is breaking news.
Also breaking? My hopes and dreams of a full week off next week.
That’s it. That’s the news.
Let me tell you who I’m not proud of? Donald Trump. He really is the worst. Not a fan at all.
Let me tell you who I am proud of… all my SAG-AFTRA and WGA friends and family. I was out there for a few hours yesterday, and let me tell you something… it was hot! I’m sunburned! The writers have been out there for almost three months, with the actors joining on July 14th.
And none of it needs to happen. I mean it does, we support the unions in this house, but this is all up to the AMPTP. We’re talking about a 3 or maybe $4 billion economic fall out from these strikes, while again – the current writers guild proposal would cost $343 million. Which company stands to lose the most of this deal goes through? Netflix. How much would it cost? .214% of the annual profits.
.214%
These multi-billion-dollar companies are willing to let the economy crumble, and indeed they’ve already gotten got saying they’ll do this until people lose their homes… for, at the very most, .214% of their profits.
So yeah, like you wouldn’t believe, I’m proud of everyone taking part in, or staying in support of, this hot labor summer.
And because you support workers and just want people to be able to get back to work with fair wages… I’m proud of you.
