Good morning! It’s National Lazy Day.
Can I be honest? Like really really honest?
Could never be me and that is… not great. Rest is important. Do it!
And now, the news.
Maui Wildfires
Let’s start in Hawaii, where at least six people are dead and at least two dozen more were injured after an unprecedented wildfire tore through Maui. Dozens of homes and businesses were destroyed by the fire that forced some to jump into the ocean to escape it.
More than 2,100 people were sent to evacuation centers and as of this recording, more than 14,000 customers in Maui are without power. The National Weather Service believes Hurricane Dora was partly to blame for the wind gusts that knocked out power and grounded some firefighting helicopters.
As of this recording, the fires are still not out.
One Dead in FBI Raid
-via NY Times
Hours before the President was set to speak in Salt Lake City, Utah FBI shot and killed a man while trying to serve a search warrant at his home, related to charges he faced for death threats made against President Biden and Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.
The suspect has not officially been named, but the Provo man was facing one count of interstate threats, one count of threats against the president and another count of influencing, impeding and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers by threat.
Threats include online posts like his Sept. 19, 2022 post saying, “the time is right for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe then Kamala.”
Haunting for sure, but his comment about Alvin Bragg was more graphic. I will not be reading it here, but the article is linked in show notes.
This is not breaking news, but I’m sure more will come out as the days go on.

Your World Cupdate – because while my emotions are still healing, I can at least, vaguely, pull myself together to tell you who’s still left in our elite eight:
Spain, The Netherlands, Sweden, France, England, Japan, Colombia, and Australia. Good luck athletes! Gooooooo sports!
I’m okay.
Biden Proposes Tech Restrictions in China
-via Washington Post
On Wednesday, President Biden signed a narrow executive order, which won’t take effect until next year, meant to slow US’s investment in quantum computing, artificial intelligence and advanced semiconductors. So… shoot… guess I’ll have to do all of my quantum computing investing elsewhere.
It also proposes a requirement that U.S. venture capitalists and other investors notify Treasury of prospective investment into companies developing technologies in some of these targeted sectors.
The overall goal of the order is to prevent American investments in tech industries that could enhance Beijing’s military and surveillance capabilities.

And finally…
Trump Crime Update Time
(I am so sick of talking about this guy, edition)
As Atlanta prepares for what looks more and more like an indictment next week, not just of Trump but possibly of little buddies… Trump has begun, or really continued, the personal attacks on Fulton County DA Fani Willis, telling a crowd of supporters in New Hampshire on Tuesday that the 52 year old Black prosecutor is “a young woman, a young racist in Atlanta.”
That’s not it. It’s just… you did crimes. And when you do crimes, you get in trouble.
So that’s Georgia – nothing’s happened yet, but things are moving.
Twitter though… Twitter’s where it’s happening.
Lol that’s a sentence no one’s said in a while.
In a court ruling that was unsealed on Wednesday, we learned that Twitter was supposed to comply with a sealed search warrant of Trump’s account, handing the details to Coach Beard. Yes, Coach Beard! See whose DMs he was sliding into!
This is in relation to the January 6th Insurrection Crimes Case.
They did eventually turn the records over, but missed the deadline by three days and had to pay $350,000 in sanctions.
We don’t currently know what they were looking for, or what was handed over, but options include: drafts, DMs (like I mentioned), as well as who had access to his account.
Twitter did not oppose the search warrant, but did argue that not telling Trump about the search violated the First Amendment.
However, lower-court judge, Beryl A. Howell, who ruled on this case, found “reasonable grounds to believe” that telling Trump about the warrant “would seriously jeopardize the ongoing investigation” by giving him “an opportunity to destroy evidence, change patterns of behavior, [or] notify confederates,” as well as “flee from prosecution,” though the special counsel’s team said they weren’t planning to make that argument and so the “fleeing from prosecution” thing was not included in the judge’s final analysis.
The gag order was later modified to say Twitter could alert Trump to the contents of the warrant, just not the identity of the case agent. Because of how Trump, you know… he likes to turn his loyal little mob on people he doesn’t like.
And that’s it. That’s the news.
One day we’ll have an episode without any Trump Crime Update Time, and that’ll be nice!
I’m proud of people who are lazy. Not lazy all the time, sometimes we gotta do stuff… like laundry and stuff. But relaxing. Enjoying time with friends and family… that stuff matters.
But more than that… more than laundry! Because you are also fresh… I’m proud of you.
