Iowa Caucus
-via CNN
It was caucus night last night! I’m recording this late so I can talk about this with you – what a hero I am.
As expected, Trump took home the majority of the delegates, with Haley and DeSantis fighting it out for second and third place. As of this recording, there is still no projection on who will get second and who will get third.
And it says here Ramaswamy got one whole delegate. Hey, way to go big guy! Ya got one!
No no, I’m just kidding, I don’t want to make fun of him… he scares me. Seriously, that dude has an anger in a real way. Creeps me out.
For those who had a little PTS at seeing Trump get a win, here are a few things I’d like to remind you about: first, this is not a surprise. And actually, I heard someone say this the other day (I don’t remember who – I wish I did because I’d love to give them the credit) and a few more people talking about it last night – we’re all talking about Trump’s lead in the GOP but were not talking enough about how, actually, it should be higher given how he’s already been president once. We don’t really have a lot to compare this to, and actually in many ways we have nothing to compare this to, but in general, Trump not being a million times further in front of the rest of the candidates is a little surprise.
But still, he does have a significant lead so Iowa is not a surprise. This doesn’t mean anything other than he won Iowa.
Ted Cruz won Iowa in 2016 so… it’s not like Iowa picks the president or even the candidate.
You know who picks the candidate? Who picks the president? The House, the Senate, the mayors?
Voters.
So if you felt any kind of way when you saw Trump get that win in Iowa, do me a favor my friend and double check that voter registration.
Because the only thing Iowa changed is renewing our drive to make sure that guy never gets elected again.
And in case you need more motivation… coming off his Iowa win, Trump is expected in yet another court room today. He will attend the start of the new civil defamation case brought on by his comments against E. Jean Carroll. As a reminder, because it’s tricky to track his many many crimes, but this is the case that came after Trump was found liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll and then went on to continue to defame her, including in a CNN townhall.
Cameras are not allowed in the courtroom.
Emmys 2024
-via Deadline
It was also Emmys night 2024 and you know what? It was a great Emmys night. I don’t have more to say about that. The winners were basically as predicted, the throwback sets for presenters were cool. Always love to see Poehler and Tina, even if the bit was too short by about three hours. Can’t not mention Hannah Waddingham. Yeah… not sure what else needs to be said.

Weather Storms
-via NPR
More than 100,000 customers are without power, and at least four people have died in Oregon, after the weekend’s winter storms that ran through the top of the country, from Oregon to Michigan.
Northern Michigan as well as western and northern New York are also in the middle of what’s being described as “life-threatening blizzard-like conditions.”
In Buffalo, those storms prompted a travel ban, which at least 164 ignored and got tickets for.
And so I guess the point of this story is just… stay warm and, if you can, stay off the streets. Especially when there’s a travel ban.
And that’s it. That’s the news.
Isn’t that wild? The caucus really stole the headlines, which is like… why? It’s not that surprising that Trump took the W.
Anyway, I’m proud of spicy foods. I love spicy foods in a way that, at times, borders on being unhealthy at times. Oh, you know what? This is real… here’s a hot tip that came from my friend Carly the last time we all did the Hot Ones challenge – lemons. I guess citrus in general, but if you’re eating something super hot, chomp on a lemon and I know it sounds fake but it truly will help curb that heat.
But more that that… because you’re not sour, but you are spicy… I’m proud of you.
