Update: Middle East
Starting with the Middle East where, on Monday night, an Israeli airstrike killed at least 60 Palestinians in Gaza after it hit a five-story building where displaced families were taking shelter.
At least 25 children are among the dead.
The Israeli military also raided, essentially destroyed, the closest hospital to the building over the weekend.
In the more than a year since Israel began its raid on Gaza, following Hamas’ October 7th attack, more than 43,000 Palestinians have been killed.
And in Lebanon, a series of strikes across Lebanon on Monday left at least 82 people killed and another 180 wounded.
Life for Paul Pelosi’s Attacker

David DePape, who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in a state trial. This is on top of the 30 years in a federal prison that he was already saddled with.
When given the chance to address the DePape talked about how Sept. 11th was an inside job, his ex-wife was replaced by a body double, and his believe that his government-provided attorneys were conspiring against him.
Reading from a sheet of paper, he said: “I’m a psychic. The more I meditate, the more psychic I get.”
So hopefully he gets some help while he’s serving that life sentence.
And hey just a reminder… QAnon, Donald Trump, 4Chan, Elon Musk… all of these conspiracy theories and echo chambers feed into each other and cause real damage.
Russian Nuclear Tests

Hey, okay remember how sometimes we just do the news and we talk about things because it’s important to know they’re happening but we don’t need to scared? That’s what we’re going to do here.
On Tuesday, Russia’s Vladimir Putin launched a series of missile launches meant to simulate a using nuclear-capable ballistic and cruise missiles.
Just a casual show of nuclear proof.
But he didn’t actually do nuclear.
So we do have that going for us.
I would imagine, and others also are saying the same thing, that this is a show of force more than anything else. So just a good thing to know, but nothing we’re going to worry about.
Election 2024
Because we have other things to worry about! We’re six days out from the election, and just a few days out from Donald Trump holding a rally where the openers joked about Puerto Rico being a pile of garbage (as a reminder – hey, Puerto Rico is a part of the United States!), another one called liberals the antichrist, while Trump promised to bring back laws from the 1700s… the following day, after even Rick Scott was like “no I’m not on board with the Puerto Rico thing” Trump called it a day of love.
Again!
That’s also what he called January 6th.
And I’m starting to think… he means it.
Also that, as I’ve said before, therapy should be free and mandatory.
But he does mean it. Because it is a day of love… for these fascists.
Meanwhile, speaking of January 6th, Kamala Harris spoke on Tuesday night from the Ellipse, where Donald Trump told his followers to fight like hell before lying and saying he’d be there with him (when in fact he just went back to the White House and egged on an insurrection).
In her closing message speech (there’s still a week left until Election Day but tens of millions of votes have already been cast and so a week out is when campaigns set their closing message. Trump chose Nazism, Kamala chose…
“As Americans, we rise and fall together. America, for too long, we have been consumed with too much division, chaos and mutual distrust. And it can be easy then to forget a simple truth: It doesn’t have to be this way it doesn’t have to be this way. We have to stop pointing fingers and start locking arms.”
“It is a choice about whether we will have a country rooted in freedom for every American — or ruled by chaos and division.”
Pretty different messages!
Oh also, Trump’s Former Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, John McEntee posted on Monday that by mail-in voting they meant “m-a-l-e” in voting. As in only men can vote.
And he’s a putz and does these dumb jokes on tiktok, which is what that way but let’s not trick ourselves. They want to consolidate power. Which laws from the 1700s do you think Trump wanted to bring back? Not the good ones! (also, which ones were good ones? In the 1700s? I guess maybe laws about lampposts or something… I’m not looking this up)
The point is this… these are the candidates. These are the closing messages.
We are less than a week away.
There is still something you can, I promise, to make sure we elect Kamala Harris.
The future of democracy deserves nothing less than everything we’ve got.
