Good morning! It’s Monday, September 23rd.
Celebrate Bisexuality Day.
A super important day because, even as we make great strides in LGBTQ+ rights (though obviously not enough), and 4% of all adults in America identify as bisexual, 37% of Americans still believe being bisexual is a choice.
But of course, sexuality is a spectrum and no matter where you fall on that spectrum, we can all agree on this one thing… people who make trying to legislate other people’s sexuality out of existance are absolute weirdos.
And now, the news.
The news is back! After two weeks off because of covid, and one week off for work, we are back baybee.
The first episode back after a break is always the hardest one – because so much news has broken!
Let’s try and get through it.
Springfield, OH
-via NBC News
If you listened to my last episode, you remember that Donald Trump and JD Vance have been spreading a horrific lie about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio. The lie caused schools and municipal buildings to be closed due to bomb threats, while the mayor and governor came out to assure people that no – immigrants are not stealing and eating the dogs, cats, and geese in town.
Since then, the threats have continued, causing now even hospitals to close, two Walmarts to be evacuated, and schools to increase their security.
On top of all of that – in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Vance literally said “The American media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I started talking about cat memes. If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.”
When Dana Bash said, “You just said that this is a story that you created,” you can literally watch Vance glitch like he’s Mitch McConnell before being his usual, wildly condescending, little worm and I’m sorry but his lies are putting people in danger so I’m not going to repeat those lies here but just know… they were lies. They were annoying. And I don’t like the cut of that guy’s jib!
I liked it better when he was saying he was a “never trump guy” and calling Trump America’s Hitler. Which wasn’t even that long ago! Imagine going from that to this!
Therapy should be free and mandatory!
And of course, while all of that is going on… the same governor who called out Trump and Vance’s lies… continues to stand by his endorsement of Trump.
Way to stand by your state, guy.
Birmingham Shooting
-via CNN
And because this is America…
Four people are dead and at least 17 were injured when multiple shooters opened fire Saturday night in Birmingham, Alabama. Police believe it began when one of the shooters shot to carry out a hit on someone. The other three dead and 17 injured were caught in the crossfire.
There are no suspects in custody.
Mark Robinson
-via Washington Post
In North Carolina, Republican Mark Robinson, the state’s Lieutenant Governor who is currently running for Governor, had a bombshell piece of investigation come out on Thursday. Now, prior to this, what we knew about Mark Robinson is that he was against abortion, despite paying for one, believes that some protestors deserve to be shot, and was one of those weirdos who had oddly strong, negative, feelings about Simone Biles dropping out of the 2021 Olympics for her mental and physical health.
Then on Thursday, there were rumors that a story about Robinson was about to drop that was so big, even team Trump tried to convince him to drop out.
That story? Between 2008 and 2012, under the username “minisoldr,” Robinson posted on a porn website message board comments about how he considers himself a “Black nazi,” would take Hitler over Obama, and wishes slavery were still around. He also used a barrage of other slurs against gay, Black, Jewish, and Muslim people.
On a porn message board.
Again… therapy should be free and mandatory.
He also talked about the type of porn he likes, recalled peeping in on a women’s locker room when he was 14, and called himself a perv.
That news broke on Thursday, and he had hours to decide whether he would drop out of the race, since the deadline to do so was midnight of that night.
He, of course, is staying in the race! Gonna stick it out!
Called himself a Black nazi and MLK a communist… but he’s going to ride this one out.
Meanwhile, senior staffers have already quit the campaign, and despite previously saying he was MLK on steroids, even Trump is distancing himself from Robinson.
Polling has not come out since this news broke, but Trump and Harris were tied in the state prior to this and Robinson was down anywhere between 5 and 13 points, depending on which poll you look at so… I like our odds out there.
Because this is very clearly someone who should not be the governor of the state.
RFK Jr.
-via The Daily Beast
And speaking of people who I’d like to know less about… RFK Jr! Let me tell you something – every single thing I’ve ever learned about this man has been against my will.
Olivia Nuzzi, a reporter for New York magazine, who has covered RFK Jr in the past, revealed she had an affair with Jr.
Listen, I don’t want to talk about the personal lives of strangers. Nuzzi was engaged, RFK Jr is married, but besides that… she is a reporter who covered RFK Jr.
New York magazine is currently doing a thorough third-party review of all past writings from Nuzzi to find inaccuracies or bias. Their initial review didn’t find anything, but again – we have to wait for that third-party review to be sure.
I’m not going to yuck someone’s yum, even if said yum is truly one of the most confusing yums ever, but I will yuck someone making a mockery of journalism.
Shutdown Averted
-via AP News
On Sunday, congressional leaders announced a short-term spending bill that will allow our government to continue being funded through mid-November. They did so through a stop-gap measure, even though Trump tried to tell Republicans not to approve it because he believes a government in chaos, chaos he causes, is somehow good for him.
He wanted Republicans to tie the spending bill to a bill that prevents non-citizens from voting in elections. A truly pointless bill because non-citizens don’t vote. But of course, they don’t care about that. They don’t care about doing things that would actually protect elections, like, you know, kicking insurrectionists out of office.
Instead they want to threaten to literally shut the entire country down because they don’t care about you, or me, or democracy.
Dorks.
Anyway, it was all for nothing because we do currently have a budget for the next three months.
Not much, but not nothing.
And that’s it. That’s the news.
Some of it, at least. Tomorrow I’m going to cover everything that’s happened in the Middle East in the last three weeks. It’s serious and requires more indepth coverage than trying to fit it in the middle of the rest of these stories.
I’m proud of… anyone lives their authentic life in a healthy, consensual, relationship.
It’s also International Day of Sign Languages. I love sign language. I only know, somewhat, ASL, but I’m a big big believer that everyone should at least know some basic signs.
But more than all the bad words in ASL that I learned before learning anything else… because you are also classy… I’m proud of you.
