Good morning! It’s Wednesday, June 14th.
National bourbon day! Oh, also international bath day. Which… that one seems very silly but I also think, should you be so inclined, we could just knock both of those out in one great holiday – national take your bourbon in the bath day!
It’s also Flag Day. Since June 14th, 1777 is when the 2nd Continental Congress adopted our flag. But like… I don’t know… bath day is a little less controversial, ya know?
And now, the news.
Denver Shooting
-via AP News
As we do here in America, as we wait for someone to do something, we start the shooting in downtown Denver on Monday night, where ten people were shot but all are expected to survive.
It’s believed to have been sparked by a drug deal one wrong and after 20 rounds were fired, injuring five or six people who were not connected with the drug deal, FIVE handguns were found at the scene. Testing still needs to be done to determine whether they were used in the shooting.
The shooting happened after the Denver Nuggets (that’s basketball) won the franchise’s first championship ever, bringing thousands of people downtown.
Along with the guns, police also found what they call a “significant quantity” of fentanyl at the scene.
Republicans to Cut University Spending
-via AP News
Wisconsin state Republicans are looking like they’ll be cutting funding for University of Wisconsin campuses, a vote that comes days after they also gave a thumbs down emoji to funding an engineering facility on the University’s Madison campus.
Now, why on earth would they do such a thing? Well, because the university would like to use the funding, totally about $32 million, for diversity initiatives. And so Speaker Robin Vos, a Republican, said they’ll be voting to cut funding because the university should have chosen something more production and broadly supported.
Amazing.
They’re really just not even attempting to hide it anymore, huh?
Biden’s Press Secretary Violated Hatch Act
-via CNN
President Biden’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre has been found in violation of the Hatch Act, for using the term “mega MAGA” from the podium.
The Hatch Act, as a reminder, is a law that is supposed to stop the federal government and its employees from affecting elections or doing things in a partisan manner.
So… yeah, okay. That’s fair. She got a warning letter. I don’t have a problem with this.
Except that Trump violated the Hatch Act a million times while he was in offices. In fact, a November 2021 report found that at least 13 Trump officials violated the Hatch Act.
And he was warned, but he never changed his ways and they never did anything with the act to make it actually enforceable. It’s kind of not. It’s just like… hey! Don’t do this! Because of the act!
So… I mean… great, send a warning letter. But you can save your “we’re letting you off easy THIS TIME.”
Trump Crime Update Time
-via NY Times
And speaking of our little Hatch Act Violator!
Trump Crime Update Time!
Consequences for Actions, edition.
Trump has entered a plea of not guilty for the 37 charges of illegal dib calling. Actually, what his lawyer said was, “we most certainly enter a plea of not guilty.”
Relax, guy.
The case now heads to Judge Aileen Cannon, who Trump actually nominated. See how that works? Poorly.
Previously in Trump Crime Update Time, Judge Cannon handled the suit Trump filed that challenged the FBI’s search of his Florida home. Cannon ruled in Trump’s favor, and an appeals court overturned that ruling and was extremely critical of the Judge when they did so. So…. We’ll see!
Obviously Trump headed straight to a fundraiser in Jersey. Because ABG – Always Be Griftin.
E. Jean Carroll Can Revise Defamation Suit
-via Washington Post
It’s a bad day to be Trump. And you know what we say about that… good.
Because in another state, for another crime, a New York judge ruled that E. Jean Carroll can amened a separate suit to seek more damages from Trump, after he continued to defame her at the CNN town hall that I didn’t watch.
She is seeking at least $10 million in damages for the town hall comments.
And that’s it. That’s the news.
Not a ton of news when the former president of the country is busy becoming the first former president to be indicted twice.
I’m proud of… well I’m proud of E. Jean Carroll.
Also baths.
But more than that… more than the bath I would have loved to have taken before I recorded this but instead I took a shower like a CHUMP… because you’re smarter than that – I’m proud of you.
