Good morning! It’s Wednesday, August 28th.
Crackers over the Keyboard Day
Hey, don’t do this. You deserve nice things. You deserve better than crumbs.
And now, the news.
Trip-E
-via NY Times
Starting with a story out of Massachusetts, where one person has died, and two more have been infected, after contracting the Eastern equine encephalitis aka Trip-E.
Actually right now it’s AKA EEE but that’s dumb.
We’re calling it a Trip-E.
Here’s what to know about it:
The disease is transmitted by mosquitos, like West Nile, but is more rare and carries a higher death rate.
It is not contagious from person to person.
There is currently no treatment.
For the person that died, that was the first case in the state in years. So it is scary, but we don’t necessarily need to be super scared.
More people who are bit by an infected mosquito won’t even get the Trip-E.
And that’s a great relief to someone who is recording this with a baker’s dozen worth of bites at this exact time.
Sloth Virus
-via AP News
And hey, how about another virus story?
More than twenty people returning from Cuba to the US have been infected with something called a Slug Virus. Named so because originally it was believed that sloths were important in the spreading of this disease.
Alas, they are innocent.
No one has died and there is no indication that the Sloth Virus is spreading.
Except…
Trump Crime Update Time
-via Washington Post
There is one sloth-like symptom plaguing our country… That’s right, it’s
Trump Crime Update Time
(Another One, edition)
I’ll be honest, the Sloth Virus is real but I only included it in this episode because it just tees this up so nicely.
They said it couldn’t be done. They said there’s no way Mr. 91 could ever outdo his current record, and yet…
On Tuesday, Special Council Jack Smith, aka Coach Beard, filed an updated indictment against Trump in the case of the time he tried to steal an election instead of just going to therapy to deal with the fact that his dad never hugged him.
The superseding indictment comes 10 days before a 60-day rule would forestall new charges against Trump. Got it just in time!
The indictment was filed “by a new grand jury that had not previously heard evidence in this case” and “reflects the Government’s efforts to respect and implement the Supreme Court’s holdings and remand instructions.”
So it’s… paperwork. But it’s exciting, nonetheless.
Consequences for actions! We love to see it.
Also a small thing but it sounds like that September 10th debate between Trump and Kamala will be happening, because Trump has agreed to the muted mic and no audience rule that he was sort of trying to back out of (despite previously agreeing when it was Biden he was debating).
We’ll see what excuses he comes up with after this because let me tell you – I sure wouldn’t want to debate Kamala Harris. And I’m not in cognitive decline.
If I were Trump… well if I were Trump I’d drop out of the race. But you know – to each their own.
And that’s it. That’s the news.
Slow news day!
Hey if you’re looking for something to listen to after this, there’s a new episode of Kim Moffat is a Fan that’s out right now. It’s the second part of my episode with Kate Shaw, one of the co-hosts of Strict Scrutiny – a podcast about the Supreme Court.
I’m proud of… well not crackers over a keyboard, that’s for sure!
But more than that, more than common sense, because there’s nothing common about you… I’m proud of you.
